Dry ice blasting for heritage & monuments

Natural stone, listed brick, sculptures, ornaments and historic facades require a non-abrasive cleaning technique, without chemicals and without water. Dry ice blasting is the ideal solution for heritage sites in Wallonia and Belgium.

Non-abrasive No chemicals Compatible with listed surfaces Preserves architectural details
Why dry ice blasting

The most suitable technology for sensitive listed surfaces

Zero abrasion on stone

Dry ice sublimates with no mechanical action on the substrate. It does not scratch, does not dig and does not tear away material, unlike sandblasting or pressure washing which irreversibly degrade stone.

No water, zero infiltration

Pressurised water infiltrates joints and accelerates the degradation of old masonry. Dry ice blasting brings no moisture at all, ideal for the thick walls of historic buildings.

Preserves architectural details

Mouldings, sculptures, cornices, ornaments: dry ice cleans with precision without erasing details. The nozzle is adjusted to each area for a surgical result.

Intervention report

Icetec provides a detailed report of each intervention, useful for restoration files, grant applications and reports to heritage authorities.

Every intervention on a listed building must however be validated by the architect responsible for the project and the relevant authorities. Icetec provides a detailed technical sheet to facilitate this validation.
No if parameters are correctly set. Icetec systematically performs a test on a discreet area before the full intervention. Pressure and projection distance are lowered for soft stones or fragile patina. The patina is preserved, only foreign deposits are removed.
Yes. The process generates CO2 which quickly dilutes into ambient air, normal ventilation is sufficient. Indoor interventions are scheduled outside opening hours for public buildings.
